Ever since I heard there was an open source fan-made continuation of the Sega Genesis Streets of Rage (SoR) trilogy of games, I just knew I just had to try it out. They also said that the more recent versions of OpenBOR games (which I think the OpenBOR engine itself is even dated - with people going to newer platforms) those really need to run on the exact version of the OpenBOR engine they were originally designed on (kinda like how a specific MAME romset needs to be played on an exact matching emulator core)...so I don't see much movement compatibility-wise for us moving forward if that's the case (and even if you did get it running on an old version of RetroPie you STILL wouldn't be able to run all the newer OpenBOR games I don't think). You have an attack button that you tap a few times to execute a combo, a 'special' button which activates a life-draining special attack and you can press Forward-Forward+Attack button for a super move that doesn't take energy, but isn't as strong as the life-draining special.
